Despite the popularity of running, most runners, coaches and trainers don't know how to train effectively. Imperfect training will prevent runners from meeting their potential and can even cause injuries. This presentation will take both a scientific and coaching view of the training process and discuss some the most important lessons for advising and coaching runners.

Take It to the Top: Peak Your Cycling Performance: Jacki Gardner
Discover effective training techniques to optimize your personal cycling performance. Whether you are a beginning triathlete, a seasoned cyclist or anyone in between, this workshop is for you. Join us to learn how to train intelligently by developing and executing a training plan – much like building a pyramid. Explore how to start with a broad base of endurance and top it off with intensity - the broader the base, the higher your peak performance will be.

Flexibility Training for Athletic Performance: Dr. Jason Karp
This combination lecture and workshop will discuss and demonstrate the different types of stretching and flexibility techniques athletes can use. We will also explore the research to reveal some surprising things about stretching. Participants will have the chance to practice different flexibility techniques and learn which is the most effective.

For the Long Run (Sports Nutrition): Dominique Adair
Learn the latest on performance nutrition for endurance training and competition. Presented by a credentialed fitness professional, Registered Dietitian and athlete herself, this lecture will examine nutrient timing (pre, during and post event), as well as discuss those supplements, bars and beverages to enhance endurance performance. If you are (or would like to be) an endurance athlete, this lecture sorts fact from fiction and delivers practical take-to-training tips. Case studies complete the lecture and make it all real (time allowing).
5:00pm – 6:30pm
Sink or Swim - Endurance Swimming for Athletes: Connie Lagerhausen
Utilize the stop clock to your body’s advantage! This combination lecture/workshop will discuss and demonstrate how overall physical fitness can be improved through lap swimming, exercises and drills, plus identify the difference between endurance swimming classes and other swim programs. Participants should include athletes who do not currently incorporate endurance swimming into their workouts (but should!),current swimmers that just want to make their best better, instructors with a desire to teach endurance swimming to others, and athletes and/or instructors with an interest in organizing endurance swimming classes at their facilities.
